MUSE PRODUCT VISUALIZATION
My Roles Graphic Design | Product Design | Animation
Muse is a Toronto-based leader in neurotechnology who have created their own research-grade EEG headbands that sends live biosignal's to their sleep / meditation app. I was brought onto the project as apart of an agile team to help contribute to in-app improvements over a 3 year span. Over that time, Muse has had an increased user engagement by 22% and in-app subscriptions have sky rocketed by 54%.
THE CHALLENGE
The client wanted to provide their users with a series of guided videos on the headbands' features, how to adjust/ place the headband on the user's head to get the most accurate readings. Muse wanted to film these gifs with the use of actors and a film crew, but my Sr. Designer convinced them that it could be done in a series of illustrations to make up the guided gifs.
The client was skeptical that illustrations could clearly convey such a complex topic and thus the visual information may be hard for users to relate. I am someone who never backs down from a challenge and I knew I could convince the client otherwise as I had envisioned how the product could look and flow together.

THE PROCESS
The project required me to design a guide for both of Muses' EEG headbands, the figure was to be gender-neutral, and to create same flows for multiple hair styles and textures. I was also to highlight product features and
My designs used simple lines and line weights to easily differentiate a hierarchy between the product from other visuals within the frame. Once I completed the sequence to the action, I copied all the design elements from Illustrator and pasted them into Figma and align all the frames in sequence. I then applied quick prototyping to bring the frames to life, to see how they flowed in a live gif loop.
I would receive feedback from my Team Lead and in turn I would provide feedback on design decisions and rationale behind each action, determining if a few extra frames needed to be included for a smoother loop.

CONCLUSION
I achieved what my Team Lead and I set out to do, which was convince the Muse team that my Illustrations were the right choice for the project and could successfully translate to a gif guide for users to easily comprehend. Sadly, I do not know the outcome of this project, Muse had hired on their own in-house designers to take over the work that Design Like You Mean It were doing for them.
Some Take aways from this project for me were keeping well organized files with all the different variations of elements needed for this project flows, so I could easily recall an image or sequence when needed.
When designing an animation or gif, It's important that stationary elements remain locked in the same position because even the slightest misalignment will stand out when animated.
